In August of 2010, police made the gruesome discovery of 35 late-term aborted babies in a freezer at abortionist Steven Brigham’s Elkton, Maryland abortion facility.

Fr. Joe Piekarski of Immaculate Conception Church in Elkton applied to the Maryland Board of Medical Examiners to receive the babies and his request was granted. Fr. Piekarski received 34 of the babies, one having been claimed by a family from Canada.

The pro-life community was anxious to help Fr. Piekarski hold an appropriate funeral which the community could attend and the public could see, which would help humanize the victims of abortion.

Babies Buried in Secret

Fr. Piekarski was initially warm to the idea, but on November 15, 2010, Father reversed course and had the babies buried with no announcement and no funeral Mass.

It seems that, much like Cardinal Bernardin had in 1987 in the case of babies buried in Evergreen Park, Fr. Piekarski feared that a public service might cause an unwanted "media frenzy" and so declined to publicize the burial.

A simple graveside service was held and all 34 babies were buried in one adult sized coffin.

About 30 parishioners from Immaculate Conception Church and Good Shepherd Church in neighboring Perryville attended the service. Local media covered the service and video of the event can be seen below:
