About the Gravesite of Aborted Babies in Evergreen Park, Illinois

In February and April of 1987, Monica Miller of Citizens for a Pro-Life Society and Joe Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League recovered the bodies of 500 victims of abortion in Chicago.

The bodies were found in the dumpster behind the Michigan Avenue Medical Center, located on Chicago's famous "Miracle Mile".

Monica, Joe and the other activists involved in this brave recovery testified to the grueling nature of the work, both physically and spiritually.

A press conference was held outside the medical center where Joe and Monica displayed the bodies for the public to see.

Cardinal Bernardin and the Archdiocese of Chicago provided a quiet burial for the babies, though they did not allow any press attention to go to the funerals.

This was a disappointment to the activists who had found the bodies and hoped that seeing such a funeral would humanize the unborn child in the minds of the public.

To his credit, Cardinal Bernardin oversaw the burial of 2,000 children in a public funearl in nearby Hillside, Illinois the following year.

Day of Remembrance 2013

On Saturday, September 14, 2013, a crowd of 150 faithful pro-lifers gathered at Resurrection cemetery to remember the babies buried there and recommit themselves to the fight for life.

Bishop Alberto Rojas of the Archdiocese of Chicago led the faithful in prayers. Carnations were distributed to all attendees under the age of 40, which they were commissioned to give to their mothers in thanks for their life, since they were born under Roe v. Wade's reign of "choice."
