About the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands, New York
During the course of a 1996 Medicaid fraud investigation of an abortion facility in Colonie, New York, the the owners fled, leaving 17 aborted babies in a freezer.
To prevent these children from being treated as medical waste, the local ecumenical pro-life community rallied on their behalf, with Bishop Howard Hubbard of the Diocese of Albany speaking out in defense of the sanctity of their brief lives.
After being autopsied and cremated, these abortion victims were quietly buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. The following year a beautiful memorial service was held at which some local children named each of the aborted babies to ensure they would never be forgotten.
Every year since then, the Capital Region pro-life community has gathered to remember these 17 victims of abortion and pray for an end to the scourge of abortion.[Back to Top]
